Horlogerie indépendante is watchmaking practiced outside the industrial manufacture. One watchmaker, or a small workshop, carries a watch from first sketch to final regulation: design, construction, finishing, and assembly held in few hands, in numbers small enough that every decision stays visible in the finished object.

A brief history of the tradition, and the hands that make these pieces possible.
Independent watchmaking is the practice of carrying a watch outside the industrial manufacture: design, construction, finishing, and assembly held in few hands, in numbers small enough that every decision remains visible. In 1984 Svend Andersen and Vincent Calabrese founded the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants to give watchmaker-creators working outside the large houses a collective voice. Volumes stay small, development takes years, and one signature answers for the whole object.
The pieces in this collection follow that model as collaborations. Artists and watchmakers work the object together — case, dial, movement, and record — and the finished watch is what those hands make possible, not a product line.
Liping Lin commissions each project and proposes its design direction. The work is then developed with the specialist designers and makers it requires: 郭昊 (Guo Hao) is the principal watchmaker behind these builds, while Frego Shanghai provides servicing, maintenance, and related adjustments through 董毅 (Dong Yi).
